Pastor Andy Gans was installed as the Senior Pastor of Pines Presbyterian Church, followed by a Texas-sized reception!

Great news from the PNC! At the February 26th Congregational Meeting, Pastor Andrew (Andy) J. Gans was presented to the congregation as the unanimous choice of the Pastor Nominating Committee to be our new Senior Pastor.  Every vote was in favor of Andy joining the Pines family.  Andy’s first day in the Pulpit will be Palm Sunday, April 9th.   For more information about Andy, his wife Cheryl and daughters Catey and Ashley, please view the video below that Andy prepared introducing the Gans family to us.  Additional information about Andy and his family is being mailed to Pines members’ homes.  Also, meet and greet opportunities are being planned so please look for opportunities to give Andy and his family a warm Texas welcome.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask any of the PNC members listed at the bottom of this page.

Happy 2017! The year of the new Senior Pastor at Pines! Your Pines PNC is excited to be bringing one of our final two candidates to Houston in January! The candidate will travel to Houston with their spouse to meet the entire PNC in person. We will get to know the candidate on a deeper level as well as get to know their spouse.

This is an exciting time for the PNC and for all of Pines. We have spent considerable time and prayer developing questions for our interviews, our reference checks, and now our in-person visits. The personal visits are our way to continue establishing a meaningful relationship with who we feel God is calling to be our new Senior Pastor. This visit also gives the candidate an opportunity to learn more about Pines and Houston. We remind ourselves that the Holy Spirit speaks through groups and that we must listen to God’s call as we make our final decisions.

We are joyful, hopeful, and faithful in our ongoing work. As we have stated since we began the PNC journey in March, feel free to approach any of us with concerns or questions. The words of encouragement and prayer you have offered up over the past few months have been greatly appreciated. We ask that you continue to pray for the PNC and for the person whom God calls as our new senior pastor and that they will be open and receptive to His call.

The first round of candidate interviews has been completed. Three candidates emerged from the four pastors we interviewed. Those three candidates have passed a Presbytery to Presbytery reference check. At this point the PNC has divided up into teams to begin scheduling and calling personal references provided by the candidates. Those candidates with favorable reference checks will be scheduled for a second interview during which time we will ask additional questions regarding their past experiences and how that experience is applicable to our family.

The PNC progress timeline is posted near the water fountain in the hallway outside the library. The committee continues to feel the effects of your prayers and support. The kind words of encouragement are deeply appreciated. The interview process has begun! We have scheduled the first round of interviews with three excellent candidates. Each candidate has gone through multiple levels of preliminary review, committee discussion, and prayer. The review process included studying their PIFs (Personal Information Form), listening to their sermons podcasts, watching them lead a worship service (online), reading their church websites, and researching their printed articles, books, and websites. We are very much looking forward to getting to know each candidate even further now. While we are excited about these potential Senior Pastors we continue to receive and review PIFs (we’ve reviewed over 75 PIFs to date!).

During the month of August, we have continued to meet weekly to discuss and review the Pastor Information Forms (PIFs) that PCUSA matched with our Ministry Information Form (MIF). We have reviewed a total of over 50 PIFs!

Each PIF we read includes a Faith Statement from the candidate. So the PNC committee thought we, too, should have a faith statement. We agreed on this Faith Statement, drawn from Psalm 33, as we carry out our work on behalf of the congregation:

          WE BELIEVE THAT the word of the Lord is right and true; that he is faithful in all he does. (v. 4)

          WE BELIEVE THAT the Lord loves righteousness and justice; and that the earth is full of his unfailing love. (v. 5)

          WE BELIEVE THAT the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, and the purposes of his heart endure through all generations. (v. 11)

          WE BELIEVE THAT the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love. (v. 18)

          BELIEVING THAT, we wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. (v. 20-21)

          AND SO WE PRAY: May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you. (v. 22)

The PNC started reviewing the first group of PIF (Pastor Information Form) matches from the CLC (Church Leadership Connection) database.  Please include the Pastor Nominating Committee in your prayers to discern God’s will for Pines and for our future pastor who is hearing a call to come serve with us.

The PNC has been meeting weekly since February in the process of finding our new Pastor/Head of Staff. We finalized our Ministry Information Form (MIF) for submission to the Committee on Ministry (COM). The MIF is the “job description’ that will be used to advertise our position and match potential pastoral candidates to our church. Once approved by the COM, the MIF will be entered into the Church Leadership Connection (CLC) database, an internet-based matching and referral system of the Presbyterian Church, and we will be begin receiving Pastor Information Forms (PIF) for consideration.

In February of 2016, the congregation of Pines elected the following nine members to serve on the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) to begin the discernment process of discovering who God is calling to be the pastor in this next chapter of our congregation’s life and ministry:
