Confirmation is a part of the larger baptismal life-long process of making disciples, that is, a special time to renew baptismal promises. It is not only an opportunity for each confirmand to ‘confirm’ his or her commitment to God and the church, but it is also a time for God and the church to publicly and visibly ‘confirm’ their commitment to the confirmand. A major aspect of Pines approach to confirmation is the assigning of an adult mentor who seeks to develop a personal relationship with a confirmand and personally lead the confirmand through the various experiences of confirmation in worship, fellowship, and mission. At the end of the entire confirmation process, a confirmand may be able to experience his or her personal growth of faith, deeper commitment, and joy. The next Confirmation Class will begin with an opening retreat on September 9, 2017, and ends on Confirmation Sunday, May 20, 2018. For questions, please contact the church office at 713-467-2234.
Houston Area Celebration (HAC)
Pines High School students have been active in “Celebration” which is a weekend retreat event for high school students to explore their faith in a loving and supportive environment. Activities during the weekend include music, worship, fellowship and fun. Youth leaders guide the weekend’s activities (with the assistance of adult leaders) to provide opportunities for focusing on what it means to a young Christian in today’s world. The next Celebration will be held August 4th – 6th, 2017, at Camp Cho-Yeh. For more information and registration, visit http://houstonareacelebration.com/default.html
Every year, New Covenant Presbytery’s Youth Connection Council (PYCC) plans two retreat weekends at Camp Cho-Yeh called CONCLAVES that enables youth to grow closer to one another, connect with other youth from all over our Presbytery, engage in small groups, experience dynamic worship, and of course, have a blast playing games and making new friends! Youth also participate in a mission project and explore ways to connect with God in the Spirituality Center. Pines’ weekend for 2018 Conclave is February 23-25. 2018. If you have questions, please contact the church office at 713-467-2234.
Pines youth seek to be in loving relationship with God, one another, and others
- by gathering together for worship, study, and fellowship;
- by being present in a godly way in other people’s lives;
- and by becoming the hands and feet of Jesus Christ for others.
Youth are encouraged to embrace “missional living” in their lives – that is, living out God’s transforming love for God and for others wherever they are.
